From There to Here

Swansea Museum, Swansea
South Wales, UK

24 April - 18 July 2004

A joint exhibition with Mary Husted.

The social function of a museum collection is to bring together the history of objects and to direct our gaze. However, the way we filter and digest information is all encompassing and artists will make connections between diverse objects and images that differ from those of a scientist or curator.”

I have been involved in work in museums since 1988, when I worked with the Gathering Rites group at the Pitt Rivers Museum, Oxford and the Natural History Museum in London. Museums are part of our cultural heritage, and we can use them as a cultural resource. The relationship between the exhibition and museum is symbiotic, and meaning is created out of the dialogue between the works and the collection. This dialogue heightens personal discovery and stimulates our relationship to our cultural heritage
