Shadows
National Assembly for Wales
Cardiff Bay
14 - 31 August 2006
A collaboration with Mary Husted
Shadows derives from the artists' 2005 visit to the Toul Sleng Museum in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. During the rule of the Pol Pot regime a local school was turned into a prison, where whole families were brought for interrogation regarding their social status and political beliefs. Each new prisoner brought in to the commpound was photographed and numbered. The walls of the rooms now hold frame after frame of these haunting images. Only a handful of the many thousands who entered survived. Both artists found this visit moving and challenging and have sought to make a work which is a testament to these forgotten faces.
The work has also been exhibited at Llantarnam Grange and Hereford School of Art.
With funding assistance from the Arts Council of Wales and AA2A.
